A pair of silk braces featuring the verses by William Blake written as a preface to his epic, ‘Milton, a Poem’, one of a collection of writings known as the ‘Prophetic Books’. These verses would later be set to music as the choral song ‘Jerusalem’ by Hubert Parry. The image, ‘The Ancient of Days’, is the title of a design by William Blake, originally published as the frontispiece to a 1794 work, ‘Europe a Prophecy’. The silk facings are woven by us in Dartmouth, Devon and backed with a black pure wool from Yorkshire for comfort in wear. Finished with wine colour glazed leather ends at front and back.
The braces are made up by Albert Thurston in Leicester. We specify the less common “X” back for our braces as we find it sits better across the shoulders and is more comfortable than the more usual “Y” back.
