Papilionaceous have been weaving luxurious jacquard silk facings for Albert Thurston Limited Edition braces for over twenty years.
An illustrated listing of many of these designs can be found in our Albert Thurston Gallery
Design & production of silk braces
We design and weave to the exact width (and length in some cases) of the braces. Many men are still of the belief that braces should not be seen, observing the notion that a gentleman removing his jacket in public is considered bad form. The design therefore is there primarily to please the wearer. Of course, the more modern public display of braces is also something that we cater for and they are often conversation pieces in their own right.
Despite this modern technology, the design and manufacturing process is still recognisable to most hand weavers.
Each new design is worked up to a detailed level before sampling on the loom. Revisions are often made to the design file before resampling, sometimes many times before going into production. Occasionally, the very first sample works perfectly!
Papilionaceous also produces custom silk braces to order:
This Tulip design was a private commission for wedding braces for the groom and ushers and silk bookmarks favours for the guests. Minimum orders are just twelve pairs for an exclusive braces design, unique to your wedding. For more information please get in touch: contact
